Class of 2026 Member
- Alec Beck
- About:
Alec is originally from Danville, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Gettysburg College in December 2020 with a major in biochemistry and molecular biology. As an undergraduate, he worked in a research lab investigating genes involved in cell cycle control of the fungus A. nidulans, was a teaching assistant for general chemistry, organic chemistry, and molecular biology courses, and completed summer research internships in wet-lab and computational genetics. Alec worked as a research assistant at Geisinger for a year after graduation investigating pupil response and gaze patterns in children with autism. Interacting with families and hearing their individual stories inspired him to pursue genetic counseling where he could help patients more directly. He then transferred to work as a genetic counseling assistant and also volunteered as a crisis counselor with Crisis Text Line. Alec chose Rutgers because of its supportive and pragmatic leadership, longer rotations, and commitment to giving students a personalized experience.
